Lichen in rabbits is especially dangerous in the following situations:

  • the animal is weakened through a lack of nutrients in the body or after suffering a disease;
  • skin lesions of various degrees, wounds, scratches, etc.;
  • Incorrect pet conditions.

If the animal has become infected with lichen for any reason, the owner should be especially attentive during treatment. The fact is that on the wool of diseased animals there are spores of a pathogenic fungus that can transmit the infection to healthy individuals, including through the contact of the rabbit breeder with other representatives of the rabbit family.

To cure the rabbit from the disease in question, you can use a huge amount of medications. The most popular medicines for lichen are Wakderm and Rabivak.

In affected areas, these solutions are treated, and part of the hair near the foci of infection needs to be sheared. The wool taken from the rabbit is not thrown away, but burned, only in this way can the further spread of the infection be prevented.

To soften dry skin, the affected areas are treated with laundry soap. For this purpose, iodine of 5% concentration and salicylic acid can also be used. A good result can be achieved by treating wounds with Trichothecin, which was previously mixed with fish oil.

Prevention of the disease in question is to maintain cleanliness in the cell, the rabbit breeder must constantly remove feces and food debris. Two or three times a month, a general cleaning is carried out with disinfection of the cell walls, it is also necessary to handle feeders and drinking bowls.

The diseased animal is quarantined for 15-20 days. It is necessary to approach the destruction of the fungus with all responsibility, this parasite is not afraid of exposure to high temperatures and some disinfectants.
